2020 Progeny Shiraz Awards

 

  • Top Value and Top Rank with The Real Review. Gabrielle Poy was the wine reviewer, and she described our wine as “delicious”. The wine was also rated 2nd from 89 Australian 2020 Vintage Shiraz wines tasted to date hence the Top Rank ribbon
  • Gold Medal – The Real Review 95/100
  • Silver Medal  – 2021 Victorian Wine Show 92 points

Winnner – 2019 Sanguine Estate Inception Shiraz

2021 Saint Martin Oak Great Australian Shiraz Challenge

Not only did we win the trophy for “Best Victorian Shiraz” with a score of 96/100 (placing us in the top 1% of the Challenge) but we were also only 1 point from the overall Australian Shiraz winner – so close!

365 Australian Shiraz wines were entered into the 2021 Great Australian Shiraz Challenge from 50+ regions.  This is the second time Winemaker Mark Hunter has won this award.  The last time was in the 2017 Challenge with our 2012 Progeny Shiraz.

Mark won the trophy with our 2017, 2012 and 2008 vintages of Progeny Shiraz.  We pride ourselves on consistency and to be recognised for it with a trophy is simply amazing.

When asked by the organising committee to drop off some of our 2017 Progeny Shiraz for the awards ceremony for the 2018 Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show you suspect the wine has done well however we never in our wildest dreams thought we would walk away with 4 trophies.

Best Young Shiraz, Best Shiraz, Best Single Vineyard wine & Best Wine Grown and made in Heathcote Trophies

Equaled 2012 Penfolds Grange for TOP 10 Best Shiraz’s in the World!

Winner – 2012 Inception Shiraz.

Winestate’s 2017 Mainfreight World’s Greatest Syrah & Shiraz Challenge

Sanguine Estate’s 2012 Inception Shiraz (aka Estate) has been awarded 5 Stars (Gold Medal), best Shiraz in the “$35 to $40” category and equal best Shiraz overall at 2017 Mainfreight World’s Greatest Syrah & Shiraz Challenge matching the 2012 Penfolds Grange (valued at $1,000).

Over 427 Shiraz wines from Australia and around the world (namely France, South Africa, Argentina, Chile and New Zealand) were judged and included iconic wine brands purchased by the organisers that are not normally entered into wine competitions such as Penfolds Grange and Henschke Hill of Grace from Australia and M. Chapoutier L’Ermite, E. Guigal Cote Roti La Turque and Paul Jaboulet La Chapelle from France. Only 40 out of the 427 wines (9.36%) judged achieved 5 Stars (gold medal) including Sanguine Estate’s 2012 Inception Shiraz and 2012 Progeny Shiraz.
