Building on the huge success of last year’s festival, we have another enticing program with top-flight artists and unique locations, celebrating the wonderful City of Bendigo. William Hennessey and Wilma Smith, both icons of music in Australia, join forces with the stellar soprano Sara Macliver, all exclusively in Bendigo for this festival weekend. Distinguished violist Tobias Breider returns,as does renowned pianist Ian Munro, who will present a dazzling recital on Saturday afternoon.
Since we started SEMF, we have been asked to program Schubert’s profound string quintet, so we felt this third edition of the Bendigo weekend was the right occasion to perform this extraordinary piece of music. Much-loved works by Beethoven and Schumann are also on the menu, as are Respighi’s colourful Tramonto, and powerful 16th century songs by Dowland, both for the intimate combination of soprano and string quartet. We look forward to you joining us both for what promise to be unmissable concerts, as well as for a glass or two of award winning wines from Sanguine Estate and the region’s best produce, as we mingle in the ambience of this beautiful city!
