An extraordinary result for Heathcote!

In case you are not familiar with the Winewise Championships, to enter in the first place the wine must have received a gold medal at a qualifying regional, state or national wine show so the starting base is GOLD medal winners.  You can imagine how tough the competition is so to get in the top 20 is a huge deal but then to win a medallion – you’re simply the best of the best!  Heathcote did extremely well in 2020 and we have pulled together award winning Winemakers and their wines for this special online tasting.

Host: Winemaker Mark Hunter (Sanguine Estate)

Co-hosts:

Narelle King of Tar & Roses

Whilst travelling in South America after university, Narelle met a young Australian winemaker who had just completed vintage in Argentina and who lived in France. This lifestyle and the wine business appealed to her greatly, so on returning to Australia, Narelle promptly enrolled in a Winemaking Degree at Charles Sturt University and has never looked back.

With previo

us qualifications as a Chartered Accountant, key accounts experience for a major spirits company and her extensive travel history, Narelle was offered a position at Mitchelton winery, involving accountancy and some cellar work. It was here Narelle met Don Lewis and both a strong friendship and great working relationship was forged.

Sadly, 2017 saw the passing of Don Lewis and the final vintage of his legendary career. Narelle King is carrying on the Tar & Roses tradition of championing Italian and Spanish varietals and producing wines handcrafted from beginning to end.

Tobias Ansted (Tellurian Wines)

I came into the wine industry straight out of school knowing nothing about the industry, from a family whose wine drinking extended to Chestnut Teal and Ben Ean Moselle. My ambition was to work outdoors. During my last year of school I worked at Lark Hill winery, where the family encouraged my interest in winemaking and revealed a world connected to the land that would offer me incredible diversity in my life and career

My greatest inspiration came working as a stagiaire at Domaine Vincent Girardin in the Côte de Beaune. Vincent was an extremely generous man and shared many bottles of Burgundy, his own and others.

I returned to Australia determined to make wines from small ‘domains’, focusing on the vineyard and letting the wines speak for themselves. I was chief winemaker role at Balgownie Estate, in Victoria for eight years, before joining Ian to establish Tellurian.
