Description of the Sanguine Wine Club Blending Session

In preparation for our Sanguine Estate Wine Club launch at the D’Orsa Reserve Release Dinner in August, we are offering a select few Sanguine mailing list customers an opportunity to join our winemaker Mark Hunter around a board room table to help blend the inaugural Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz. In this unique insight into the world of Sanguine Shiraz and over the course of an hour and a half, Mark will present you with a selection of wine samples extracted that morning from our barrels at the winery. He will then tutor you on how to blend an award winning wine taking into consideration the important role of tannins, oak, acid, fruit, depth, length and mouth feel so that you have all the tools necessary to formulate your very own wine blend. Mark will then take your creation along with other guests joining you in the session and formulate the most popular blend that will become our very first Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz – an honour which will in future be strictly reserved for Wine Club Members only.

The Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz blending session comprises:

    • A tutored session on how to blend an award winning shiraz
    • An opportunity for you to formulate your preferred wine blend and take home a 375ml bottle sample of it.
    • Contributing to the final Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz blend that will be included as part of Sanguine’s Wine Club launch in August.

    PLUS

    • Your name will be placed on the back label of the Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz as a contributor to the blend
    • You’ll receive an allocation of the Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz blend (with your name on the back label – see below for the amount of your allocation)
    • You’ll be part of an event that in future will be strictly reserved for Wine Club Members only.
    • There is no obligation for you to sign up to the Wine Club.

    When and Where?

Friday 19th July starting at 4pm with an expected finish time of 5.30pm-ish.

    New Venue Announced!
We'll now be hosting our Blending session at the very prestigious Wine Cellar of the RACV City Club. Housing one of the finest wine collections in Melbourne, the ambiance of this exclusive room will provide the ideal setting for such an exciting occasion. If you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting this iconic venue I can assure you you’re in for a big treat!

    RACV City Club Wine Cellar

    501 Bourke St Melbourne

How can I be part of this historic event?

As we expect a very high level of interest in this session, and because places are limited to the number of people we can fit around a board room table, we are inviting you to bid for a ticket to the Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz blending session.

    Here’s the best bit!! –

    • You will receive bottles of the Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz with your name on the back label up to the value of your bid.

How do I place a BID?

Bids can only be placed by emailing Jodi@sanguinewines.com.au  with your name, mobile and the value of your bid.

Should your bid drop below the successful bid line before the closing day and time, we’ll send you an email to let you know so you have an opportunity to increase your bid.

    When does bidding start?

Bidding commences on Thursday 27th June 2013

    When does bidding finish?

Bidding finishes at 5pm on Wednesday 10th July 2013

How many successful bidders will there be?

Places are limited to the number of people we can fit around a board room table. We need to keep the session small and intimate so that you get the most out of Mark’s tutoring and so we can easily collate the results and formulate the ideal blend based on everyone’s contribution. Plus, there is not much room on the back label for a lot of names!

    Guidelines for bidding

    1. All bids must be placed via email to Jodi@sanguinewines.com.au and include your name, mobile and the value of your bid
    2. It is a silent auction so you will not see what others have bid however we will email you if your bid falls below the successful bid line so you have the opportunity to increase your bid.
    3. You may not bid on behalf of another person
    4. You can only bid for one ticket not multiple tickets
    5. Upon placing your first bid we will call you for credit card details however your card will not be processed unless you are a successful bidder.
    6. You can start bidding now.
    7. All bids are final
    8. Bidding will close at 5pm on Wednesday 10th July 2013.
    9. All successful bidders will have their credit card processed in the amount of their successful bid following the close of bidding.

    If you are successful

    1. Winners will be notified directly and your credit card will be processed to the value of your bid which is non-refundable (see below for options if for unforeseeable reasons you are unable to attend).
    2. We will send you a ‘yippee’ email and provide you with directions to the venue
    3. Your name will be printed on the back label of the new wine club wine
    4. We will supply you with bottles of the wine club wine up to the value of your bid (delivery of your allocation will occur after the wine has been bottled and rested approx. Dec 2013).

    Other questions:

    1. What happens if I am a successful bidder but due to unforeseeable circumstances I am unable to attend?

The value of the bid is non refundable,  however you will still receive your allocation of the Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz up to the value of your bid.  Please note, only those in attendance on the day will have their name placed on the back label.  You can also nominate another person to attend in your place and they will receive corresponding naming rights on the back label.

    1. Do I have to sign up to the wine club as part of the bidding process? As this is our first wine club blending and as the wine club hasn’t been launched yet, you are under no obligation to become a wine club member. However this event will become exclusive to wine club members from 2014.
    2. Do I have to be an expert wine taster to attend this event? No as all levels of wine knowledge will be catered for.
    3. I have friends and colleagues who would be interested in this event, can I forward this email to them? Yes you can but if they are not mailing list members, they would have to sign up to our mailing list.

Declared an outstanding success by co-directors Chris Howlett and Howard Penny this years was the third Sanguine Estate Music Festival. "We are going from strength to strength and that is because of the Artists, the Audience, and the Hunter family" said Howard.

Here is what some of the guests attending thought:

.... I have attended many music festivals in various locations but never have I experienced anything that remotely compares with what was offered last weekend. We were treated to superb music, programming and performance. The acoustic in the barrel room was so very pleasing. Stunning location, generous hosts, thoughtful amenities and intimate spaces. Gorgeous wines, gourmet food. The personal involvement of so many members of the family added much to the enjoyment of all. Next year cant come soon enough.
    Noeline Sanblom

...Great Music, vineyard atmosphere, wine, food and good old family hospitality! Everyone associated with your music Festival aims for perfection and quality, which they achieve! We'll be back next year and look forward to a quality event that makes living in Heathcote even more special.

"Lyn, Tony, Mark, Melissa, Jodi & Brett.  We wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed the Plumm Masterclass Session - we went home with changed opinions to wine in glasses! Our wine with dinner that evening was so good!!.

Sanguine Cellar Door was so vibrant. So many people enjoying the different events, walking with wine in glass, sitting on the terrace, eating, chatting to friends.  Congratulations on a successful Heathcote On Show weekend. Programme

We once again have a singer at the Festival: the fabulous Tiffany Speight, star of Opera Australia, and a Kyneton local! She will be joined by clarinettist Paul Dean, irrepressible on and off stage, Adam Chakabi, leader of the wonderful Tinalley String Quartet, and the extraordinary Berlin-based violist, William Coleman, member of the internationally renowned Kuss Quartet, at home in the major concert halls and festivals of the world.

We celebrate the combination of soprano and clarinet with masterpieces by Schumann and Spohr, and agree with Beethoven's appraisal of the genius of both Cherubini and George Onslow, presenting dynamic string works by each of them. The Saturday afternoon concert explores arrangements of great composers by great composers, sometimes even themselves, as in Beethoven's reworking of his second symphony, while "Inside the Music" concert this time takes you on the journey from manuscript to performance, featuring arias by Mozart's quirky and highly original contemporary Zelenka, some of which have not been performed in modern times.

“…. Previous festivals have been superb but this one was even better. The organisation is exemplary with that very necessary element of attention to detail. The friendly atmosphere created by the musicians makes this festival special. Because we meet the same musicians each year (with one or two variations) we have a sense of coming together again for a common purpose and this creates a bond between guests and musicians. “Hodgson, 2014 Feedback form 14/5/14

“Good range of music, known and unknown. Excellent musicians - you can invite Rebecca back! Food superb, nice to meet old friends and new ones!” Olive, 2014 Feedback form 14/5/14

“The whole Festival was absolutely splendid!.....I loved everything about the Festival: the programme choices, the playing, the food, the people, the luxe loos, the relaxed atmosphere. I think most people will agree, as so many, including me, have already booked again.“ Genee, email 10/3/14

“.. I have attended many music festivals in various locations but never have I experienced anything that remotely compares with what was offered last weekend. We were treated to superb music, programming and performance… Stunning location, generous hosts, thoughtful amenities and intimate spaces. Gorgeous wines, gourmet food. The personal involvement of so many members of the family added much to the enjoyment of all. Next year can’t come soon enough...” Sandbolm email 7/3/14

At Sanguine Estate we've been developing a new Corporate wine experience for Melbourne based businesses who are looking for a unique and intimate team / client relationship building exercise.

Essentially, you and your team blend your very own Heathcote Shiraz under the tutelage of Sanguine Estate's award winning winemaker Mark Hunter.  Your team's Shiraz is then bottled and labelled with your chosen name on the front label together with a list of the guest names on the back label.  23 dozen of your Shiraz would then be delivered to you in time for staff/client Christmas gifts.

Plus, each of your guests take home a Plumm European Crystal Wine Glassware pack valued at $125.

There are two events remaining, one on Thursday 23rd July and one on Friday 24th July 2015.

Here are some comments from past participants

"The event was better than I could have hoped for, it was really good to meet like minded people who love their wine"

"A win win for Sanguine and Sanguine wine drinkers. Very clever concept and great entertainment for those fortunate to participate"

"The format accommodated people with different wine knowledge and palate; it was an excellent learning experience for someone seriously interested in wine (and especially in Heathcote Shiraz!) - an occasion to tell one's friends about; a very hands-on experience."

We look forward to working with you to create your very own award winning wine.

Sanguine Estate - 77 Shurans Lane, Heathcote

Five years! Now firmly established as a stellar boutique festival and a sold out event, we’ve have lots to celebrate. As a thankyou to you all for making this possible, we’ve pulled out all stops to create a spectacular weekend with some very special guests!

The extraordinary Anthony Marwood, in constant international demand for his versatility and electrifying musicianship, will be exclusively in Australia for Sanguine. We also have the huge privilege of welcoming Andrew Haveron, former leader of the legendary Brodsky Quartet and now greatly admired concertmaster of the SSO. Also gilding our artist lineup this year are SEMF first-timers Caroline Henbest and Holly Piccoli – a very warm welcome to them, as well as to our “regulars”, Ian and Daniel, Tobi, and the luminous Sara.

Rarities and gems by Schubert, Brahms, Rimsky Korsakov, Glazunov, Prokofiev, Dvorak and Strauss keep our tradition of discovery alive, but, given the firepower we have at our disposal, we simply could not resist presenting a Mendelssohn Octet this anniversary year! We asked for your favourite work from the last four festivals and we’re truly delighted to perform once more Boccherini’s magical Stabat Mater, which closed our first ever festival’s program. The much-loved “Inside the Music” will bring you into the world of this masterpiece and its language.

Building on the huge success of last year’s festival, we have another enticing program with top-flight artists and unique locations, celebrating the wonderful City of Bendigo. William Hennessey and Wilma Smith, both icons of music in Australia, join forces with the stellar soprano Sara Macliver, all exclusively in Bendigo for this festival weekend. Distinguished violist Tobias Breider returns,as does renowned pianist Ian Munro, who will present a dazzling recital on Saturday afternoon.

Since we started SEMF, we have been asked to program Schubert’s profound string quintet, so we felt this third edition of the Bendigo weekend was the right occasion to perform this extraordinary piece of music. Much-loved works by Beethoven and Schumann are also on the menu, as are Respighi’s colourful Tramonto, and powerful 16th century songs by Dowland, both for the intimate combination of soprano and string quartet. We look forward to you joining us both for what promise to be unmissable concerts, as well as for a glass or two of award winning wines from Sanguine Estate and the region’s best produce, as we mingle in the ambience of this beautiful city!

Festival passes can be purchased by calling the Capital Theatre box office. Phone: 03 5434 6100 Online: www.thecapital.com.au Mention ‘Sanguine’ when making your The Schaller Studio accommodation booking for festival package.

    SOLD OUT

While 2016 was about celebrating our achievements over five years, 2017 is about looking forward to the next five at least! While all the favourite festival elements remain, we have several new initiatives starting this year: the “family” Thursday intimate soirée at the winery, and our Sponsor a Chair program, both of which bring our stellar artists and valued supporters even closer together.

And stellar they are! We have been so fortunate in being able to invite Lukas Hagen, the leader of the legendary Hagen Quartet, one of the very few benchmark ensembles in the world, exclusively to SEMF. Also one of the most dazzling international exponents of her instrument, Concertgebouw principal flautist Emily Beynon will bring wind magic to this year’s festival, alongside brilliant young clarinettist Lloyd Van’t Hoff, winner of last year’s ABC Young Performers’ Awards. We’re looking forward to SEMF first-timer Chris Moore’s own unique blend of spectacular playing and irrepressible personality, and… Paul Wright is back! So with Ian and Tobi, without whom SEMF is simply unthinkable, that’s quite a team of artists.

As always we have matched repertoire favourites – although some will be examined more closely in this year’s Inside the Music, challenging some “traditions” of interpretation – with lesser known gems. We have been simply blown away by the discovery of Röntgen’s trio, much as we were by Onslow two years ago, and we have plenty of local colour in works by Duruflé, Shostakovich, Taktakishvilli, and Lanner. We close with a celebration of one of history’s happiest examples of musical collaboration: the arrangement of Haydn’s last symphony by his British impresario Salomon.

    So, combined with stellar wines,
food and hospitality, courtesy of the extraordinary Hunter family and Monsieur Pierre, we’re on course for a wonderful first festival of the next chapter of the SEMF story!

“…. Previous festivals have been superb but this one was even better. The organisation is exemplary with that very necessary element of attention to detail. The friendly atmosphere created by the musicians makes this festival special. Because we meet the same musicians each year (with one or two variations) we have a sense of coming together again for a common purpose and this creates a bond between guests and musicians." 2014 feedback

The SEMF Bendigo weekend has now become a popular feature of the region’s cultural year, and with the 2018 edition we are delighted to respond to the demand and expand its scope by extending the program to include a Sunday morning concert too! Our artist lineup is once again top-flight and unique, featuring such dazzling and loved Australia-based artists as Andrew Haveron, Ian Munro, Tobias Breider and Caroline Almonte. They are joined by our international guest, Stephen Stirling, one of Europe’s finest horn soloists and chamber musicians, and principal horn with the legendary Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

Committed as we are to promoting outstanding young talent as well, we are thrilled to invite Zoe Freisberg to join us this year. She has already established an enviable reputation as soloist with leading Australian orchestras, an ACO Emerging Artist, and as a sought-after chamber musician. She will be featured in the new Sunday morning recital, as well as performing alongside our established artists on Friday and Saturday.

The program includes sensational works by Suk and Saint-Saens, as well as Arensky’s gorgeously lyrical and dramatic quartet for the unusual combination of violin, viola and two cellos. Stephen will shine in Haydn’s sparkling Concerto, and the Dunhill Cornucopia, a group of gorgeous romantic salon pieces. Ian and Caroline will provide a luxury afternoon of piano four-hand gems, and we will of course continue with our now traditional cushion concert, coffee concert and master class.
Our thanks go once again to the City of Bendigo for its continued support of this growing event, making the City’s glorious venues sing with enticing and inspiring world-class music-making – we do hope you can join us!

    2018  Directors’ Welcome – Heathcote

First of all we would like to thank you all for your support for the new dates of the Festival: a chance for you to enjoy a slightly warmer wardrobe, and for us a year without the spectre of fire warnings keeping us awake at nights!

In addition to our indispensible SEMF artists Ian and Tobi, we are delighted to welcome back Andrew Haveron who made the 2016 festival such a delight both as a virtuoso violinist and as a master conférencier. He is joined on violin by Sophie Rowell, known and loved as soloist, concertmaster and passionate chamber musician. Also new to SEMF this year is the remarkable youngviolist Stefanie Farrands, presently principal of TSO after a distinguished period of performing in Berlin. Our two overseas guests are Steven Stirling, principal horn with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and one of Europe’s finest and sought-after players, and the stellar pianist Yu Kosuge who is forging a brilliant international career also as an award-winning Sony recording artist. Once again, we aim to bring you the very best artists in combinations you won’t find anywhere else!

The extraordinary Korngold Sextet has been on Andrew’s wishlist for two years now, so this forms a bookend for the Gala concert with a dream artist lineup for Brahms’ justly famous Horn Trio. Boccherini, Beethoven and Mozart make return appearances, sometimes in more unusual formations, and we a thrilled to share with you discoveries of gems by Dohnanyi, Stanford, Martinu, Dotzauer and Szymanowski. In keeping with her reputation for imaginative programming, Yu will present a segment of three Barcarolles at the Welcome concert – a fine visiting card from a hugely interesting musician.

So we are very much looking forward to you joining us for what we trust will be another weekend of exciting discovery together, sustained as always by the fantastic team of Monsieur Pierre, and of course the warm glow of the Hunter family hospitality and stellar wines.

Heathcote Wine and Food Festival is an icon on the Australian wine calendar – running annually for more than 16 years and expanding the experience of new generations of wine fans hooked on the fine produce from the Heathcote wine region.

The showcase of the region’s major industry 4000-plus people each year from across Victoria and interstate for one of Victoria’s signature regional wine events. Many are festival regulars who have become enthusiastic ambassadors for the Heathcote wine region renowned for its stunning shiraz releases and now carving an exciting reputation for Mediterranean-style reds and other varietals.

And joining them each year are first-time visitors eager to experience an exciting weekend in regional Victoria, arriving on special buses from Melbourne and Bendigo and in groups of family and friends.

    New release wines

The festival is your chance to be among the first to sample new release wines from the Heathcote region and learn more about wines that have recently achieved success in international and national awards as well as the Saint Martin Heathcote Wine Show.

    Family friendly celebration

The Heathcote Showgrounds are transformed into a stunning family-friendly village setting in the days leading up to festival celebrations, a contrast to the first festival featuring a handful of wineries in the courtyard of a local restaurant.

The festival has grown with the wine region’s reputation. International awareness of the Heathcote brand owes as much to the modern pioneers of the industry in the region as it does to today’s winemakers and vignerons.

Heathcote Wine and Food Festival runs over two days with gates opening at 10.30am each day. Tastings and sales finish at 5.30pm Saturday and 4.30pm Sunday.

Sanguine Estate - 77 Shurans Lane, Heathcote

For the eighth edition of SEMF Heathcote we have once again looked to include an instrument which we have not yet featured in the program: this year oboe. And as only the very best is good enough for you, our loyal patrons, we are thrilled that Jonathan Kelly, Principal Oboe of the Berlin Philharmonic, has agreed to join us. He brings works by 20th century luminaries Britten and Dutilleux, both firsts for SEMF. Our other international guest is prize-winning young violinist Benjamin Baker, who is being mentored by the ultra-exclusive Young Classical Artists Trust (London and new York), appearing as solist at Wigmore Hall, the Kennedy Centre as well as throughout Europe and the U.S. Both Jonathan and Ben are making their Australian debuts here – SEMF leading the way yet again!

New Australia-based artists making their SEMF debut are the esteemed Concertmaster of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and well-known chamber musician, Natsuko Yoshimoto, and the remarkable young violist Liz Woolnough of MSO and now ACO. We will of course be welcoming back essential SEMF family: Ian, Tobi and – finally – Sara!

Repertoire includes thrilling works by Beethoven and Dvorak, a little-known trio by Mendelssohn, song cycles by Ravel and de Falla as well as a haunting one by Vaughan Williams, written for just oboe and soprano. George Onslow makes a return, and is joined by Napravnik and Weber: not Carl Maria von Weber, but Josef Miroslav Weber, a remarkable Czech composer of the late 19th century – a discovery we are truly excited by. And with Sara and Jonathan here together, how could we not program a Bach cantata to close the festival?

We trust you will enjoy this year’s journey of discovery, in the safe and warmly hospitable hands of culinary masters Monsieur Pierre, as well as the wonderful Hunter family and their magnificent wines!  For more information and bookings click here

The Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz blending session comprises:

    • A tutored session on how to blend an award winning shiraz
    • An opportunity for you to formulate your preferred wine blend and take home a 375ml bottle sample of it.

    PLUS

    • Your name will be placed on the back label of the Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz as a contributor to the blend
    • You’ll receive an allocation of 6 bottles of the Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz blend (with your name on the back label)
    • Once allocations of the Wine Club Shiraz have been finalised for the full membership, any left over will be offered to you first. (Many of our participants last year purchased extra Wine Club Shiraz – with their name on the back label of course – to give as gifts to family, friends and clients for Christmas)

Mark will then take your creation along with other guests joining you in the session and formulate the most popular blend that will become the 2018 Sanguine Wine Club Shiraz.
