Sanguine Estate Music Festival - Heathcote

Sanguine Estate - 77 Shurans Lane, Heathcote

For the eighth edition of SEMF Heathcote we have once again looked to include an instrument which we have not yet featured in the program: this year oboe. And as only the very best is good enough for you, our loyal patrons, we are thrilled that Jonathan Kelly, Principal Oboe of the Berlin Philharmonic, has agreed to join us. He brings works by 20th century luminaries Britten and Dutilleux, both firsts for SEMF. Our other international guest is prize-winning young violinist Benjamin Baker, who is being mentored by the ultra-exclusive Young Classical Artists Trust (London and new York), appearing as solist at Wigmore Hall, the Kennedy Centre as well as throughout Europe and the U.S. Both Jonathan and Ben are making their Australian debuts here – SEMF leading the way yet again!

New Australia-based artists making their SEMF debut are the esteemed Concertmaster of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and well-known chamber musician, Natsuko Yoshimoto, and the remarkable young violist Liz Woolnough of MSO and now ACO. We will of course be welcoming back essential SEMF family: Ian, Tobi and – finally – Sara!

Repertoire includes thrilling works by Beethoven and Dvorak, a little-known trio by Mendelssohn, song cycles by Ravel and de Falla as well as a haunting one by Vaughan Williams, written for just oboe and soprano. George Onslow makes a return, and is joined by Napravnik and Weber: not Carl Maria von Weber, but Josef Miroslav Weber, a remarkable Czech composer of the late 19th century – a discovery we are truly excited by. And with Sara and Jonathan here together, how could we not program a Bach cantata to close the festival?

We trust you will enjoy this year’s journey of discovery, in the safe and warmly hospitable hands of culinary masters Monsieur Pierre, as well as the wonderful Hunter family and their magnificent wines!  For more information and bookings click here
